All termsTransports
HTTP / HTTPS
Exchange over HTTP/HTTPS — the transport under REST APIs, web services, and many modern integrations.
When to use it
For API-based integration (FHIR, REST, webhooks) and anything web-facing.
In plain terms
The same protocol your browser uses, put to work between systems.
Common gotchas
- Always HTTPS for PHI — plain HTTP is unacceptable across untrusted networks.
- Status codes, retries, and idempotency need explicit handling.
- TLS certificates expire — an unmonitored cert is a future outage.
