C-ECHO

The DICOM verification service — a lightweight "ping" confirming two Application Entities can talk.

When to use it

For connectivity checks during setup and troubleshooting, before real data flows.

In plain terms

Knocking to see if anyone's home before delivering the package.

Common gotchas

  • A successful C-ECHO proves association, not that C-STORE/C-FIND will succeed.
  • AE titles, IP, and port must all match the SCP configuration.
  • Some systems restrict which AEs may associate at all.
