DICOM MWL
A DICOM Modality Worklist server — gives modalities the scheduled patient and procedure details so techs don't type them by hand.
When to use it
Add MWL wherever modalities should pull scheduled exams (driven by the RIS) instead of manual entry.
In plain terms
The pre-filled appointment sheet the modality reads before each exam.
Common gotchas
- MWL is a C-FIND query the modality initiates — the worklist source (often the RIS) must be reachable.
- Empty worklists push techs to manual entry, the top cause of patient-ID mismatches.
- Field mapping (accession, procedure codes) between RIS and MWL needs care.
