PMS
A Practice Management System — handles scheduling, registration, and billing, common in clinics and outpatient settings.
When to use it
Use a PMS where appointments and patient registration originate outside a full hospital EMR.
In plain terms
The front-desk system: booking, check-in, and billing rather than clinical care.
Common gotchas
- A PMS is often the source of ADT and SIU (scheduling) events downstream.
- In some sites the PMS, not an EMR, is the identity source.
- Billing-driven data may not carry all clinical fields.
