C-MOVE

The DICOM retrieve service — instructs an archive to send matching objects to a specified destination AE.

When to use it

When a workstation or system needs images pulled from the PACS to a known destination.

In plain terms

Asking the librarian to deliver the book to a specific desk.

Common gotchas

  • The destination AE must be pre-configured on the SCP — C-MOVE can't send just anywhere.
  • It's a three-party exchange (requester, source, destination) that trips up firewalls.
  • C-GET is the alternative when the destination can't be pre-registered.
