DICOM
The DICOM network protocol itself (DIMSE over TCP) — the transport under C-STORE, C-FIND, C-MOVE, and friends.
When to use it
For any imaging exchange between DICOM Application Entities on the network.
In plain terms
The dedicated rail line that all the DICOM services run on.
Common gotchas
- Associations are AE-title + IP + port specific — all three must match.
- Transfer-syntax negotiation (compression) must be compatible.
- It is a persistent, stateful connection, unlike a simple web call.
